A More Hopeful Option
In 2005 travel company Sky Travel issued a press release claiming the third Monday of January is "Blue Monday"; the most depressing day of the year. Scientists responded with surprise that the "equation" Sky Travel used to calculate Blue Monday didn't have any statistical or scientific basis to it, noting the questionable ethics in making an unfounded scientific claim in order to sell more holidays. Sky Travel has now gone bust, but the Blue Monday idea seems to have become a bit of a "thing".
Unfortunately, many people today believe that their mental health is necessarily tied to their circumstances; if the weather is bad, money is tight and they've failed in their resolutions then they have no control over the sadness they will feel. Jesus offers a more hopeful option. His offer of access to the unseen resources of heaven means any of us can know deep peace in the midst of suffering, strong joy in the midst of discouragement, undeniable cleanness even when we have failed. Holidays are nice and parties are fun. We are going to throw a party on Sunday for the launch of our new 4pm Service. But the offer of Jesus goes beyond anything even the best party can give you; all year round access to a Love that never fails and a God who is always good.
Whoever you are, however you feel today, we are delighted to invite you to draw near to our God, and know him draw near to you.
With much affection,
Tom and Lesley Thompson
