"power in God's word"
“I’ve been involved as a helper with the Vineyard English School from fairly near its start when we met in Croydon Library.
I love meeting people with so many interesting backgrounds and stories. It’s huge fun with lots of laughter, jokes and sharing of stories. I am involved with the Bible Study Group after the language class where we have students of different beliefs and nationalities discussing a bible passage and getting to know each other. It is currently on Zoom which means some students can join from different parts of the world!
We’ve been broadly following the format of the Discovery Bible Study: first of all we welcome and we start by each person (including me) telling the group about something we’re thankful for. We then tell each other about something that’s stressing us this week. As we get to know each other we are all benefiting from the support and care of the others.
At the moment we’re following a series on honour and shame which each week takes passages from the Bible reflecting how we were created, how shame entered with sin and how God’s love restores honour. We pray, asking God to help us understand what he’s saying to us.
We discuss God’s word together as equals and there is power in God’s word.
After this we tell each other what we’d like prayer for and we pray for each other asking the Holy Spirit to fill us.
It has been the most amazing experience and hugest honour to be involved in VES and particularly the Bible study: I love it. God blesses me over and over...it’s truly fantastic.”
