Psalm 25
This week’s Song To Live By is Psalm 25
Leon writes:
Have you ever heard the phrase, “Stay out of trouble”? I know this means to behave well, but personally, I would like this phrase to be literal and I'm sure we would all love to live a life with no problems… which will happen at the return of Christ.
But until then, the writer of Psalm 25 gives us a beautiful example of what honest heartfelt God centred worship looks like in the midst of trials.
The chapter starts with a bang, “Oh my Lord, I will lift my soul, in you I will put my trust.” This challenges me to pray for my soul and command my soul to worship God regardless of what I'm going through. David's heart is for the Lord but at the same time, he's honest with God that he's experiencing fear, guilt and loneliness.
Rather than running away from God and trying to fix his own problems, he declared that God was his salvation, that God was gracious, that God was merciful, that God was good and upright. When I declare who God is, and I ask God to guide me in the choices that I make each day, I feel the peace of God and I have strength to overcome the hurdles that come my way. Ironically, David also prayed to stay out of trouble when he prayed “may integrity and uprightness, preserve me for I will wait on you.”
This psalm reminds me that Jesus is our Saviour and he sent his Holy Spirit to be with us into the end of the age, and if we endure with him, we will also reign with Him in glory.
Be encouraged.
A Prayer
“God, I lift my soul to you and I declare in the name of Jesus that my whole life belongs to you. God, you're my Saviour, you're my hope, you're my righteousness. God, take my fear and give me peace. Fill me with your love and by the power of the spirit, help me to live a life that is pleasing to you and to be a blessing to those who are around me in Jesus name, I pray.”
