Psalm 16
This week’s Song To Live By is Psalm 16
Andy writes:
Sometimes it’s wise to sing to ourselves about who God is, to celebrate our walk with him, to remind ourselves of why, if it really comes down to it, we wouldn’t have it any other way.
Sure, we may feel shaken and even unsafe at times. We can find ourselves a bit isolated, or feeling as if our hope tank is running a little low. These are common human emotions, even as people of faith we are not completely immune to them nor are we unmoved by them. So when they come, as they surely do, we can do a lot worse than playing the people of God’s Psalm 16 song:
God is my refuge, and He is good.
He’s put good people, His people, in my life.
This life He’s graciously granted me is truly a good gift.
Even when I feel alone, He is with me.
Even when I’m shaken, He remains sure.
He is my hope, even beyond the grave.
He is my great pleasure and my everlasting joy.
Now that’s a song to live by.
Maybe it’s a feel good summer anthem; or maybe we have it repeat in a time of distress; but these are precious truths that hold us whatever our emotional tone. These truths can be, no, should be, the soundtrack of our lives.
I mean as for a chorus; that line you find yourself singing over and over again, can we do any better than verse 11?
“You make known to me the path of life;
You fill me with joy in your presence.
At your right hand are pleasures forevermore.”
A prayer
God, I’m a little shaken right now, and I’m feeling a bit alone, but I thank you Lord that I can come to you as my safe place. You are my refuge. Thank you for all the blessings you’ve poured into my life, especially for your people that you’ve put around me; and your presence which gives me life. Thank you that you are for me, and you are with me, and you will be with me forever. Amen
